One thing has been bothering me about history and warfare is the Trojan horse... Or it's modern equivalent ... the shipping container. And think about all the bad things (nukes, nerve gas, biological weapons) that Iran or China or Russia or North Korea or any of our other 'neighbors' might smuggle into the country. Especially if their back is against the wall.

100%. And with Trump gutting competent people from government this becomes scarier.

Frederick, love it. Thanks for the background and the clear explanation of history and international relations.

I think the immediate, pressing issue is whether Trump will involve our Air Force in bunker busting Iran’s deep mountain nuclear facility. I doubt that Israel has any expectation of a ground war involving the U.S., or for that matter, themselves. Their goal is to incapacitate Iran’s nuclear weapons production. We could assist with that one operation. Might that result in Iran attacking U.S. shipping, overseas bases, and citizens? Maybe, but I don’t believe Iran wants to create an ongoing conflict with America. Israel/Netanyahu would love it if we would help them “MOP” up Iran’s nuclear program. It might be the cleanest way to help destabilize the current regime. But, another issue is: How much radioactive debris would be lofted into the worldwide atmosphere? Enriched uranium and perhaps even plutonium? Pakistan, India, and maybe China are immediately downwind from Iran. ?

The problem with any escalation of any sort is it always leads to unintended consequences. So we won't get out of this clean and neither with Israel or Iran for that matter.

It's why you want to have leaders who solve problems with diplomacy and only force when absolutely necessary.

What really scares me are all the “Armageddon” folks. They showed up on the fringes in the Iraq conflicts, and things haven’t gotten any better since then. These folks are simply mental blanks when it comes to how history and “sacred texts” play off on one another. This is not a condemnation of believers, but more of a suggestion on how they might have been misinformed about the actual event (I think the definitive opinion was from Jesus, who pointed out that no one knew when the world would end except the Father). How do you see that element giving your studies in both areas?
